Ahead of Union Budget, TG Govt Seeks Projects Worth Rs 1.70 Lakh Crore

Hyderabad: Ahead of the Union Budget on February 1, the state government pins high hopes on budgetary allocations for Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase 2, Musi rejuvenation and Hyderabad Regional Ring Road projects.

The state government submitted a wishlist seeking over Rs 1.7 lakh crore allocations in the Union Budget this year. Last year, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy accused the Centre of discriminating against Telangana with no allocations for any project proposed by the state government.

Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, roads and buildings minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, irrigation and civil supplies minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy made multiple visits to Delhi in the last six months to meet Union ministers and submit representations seeking funds for various infrastructure projects.

Revanth Reddy sought Rs 24,269 crore for the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail, comprising six proposed corridors spanning 76.4 km, including connectivity to areas such as Nagole-Shamshabad International Airport and Miyapur-Patancheru.

The Chief Minister also urged the Centre to approve the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) and allocate funds under a Joint Venture (JV) model. He sought Rs 55,562 crore for various development initiatives within the Greater Hyderabad limits alone.

He sought Rs 10,000 crore for the rejuvenation of the Musi River, with plans to construct canals, box drains, and sewage treatment plants (STPs) along a 110-km stretch to prevent sewage from entering the river.

The Chief Minister outlined a Comprehensive Sewerage Master Plan (CSMP) requiring Rs 17,212 crore to develop a sewerage network across Hyderabad and nearby urban areas. He urged the Centre to consider the CSMP under Amrut 2.0 or as a special project.

He requested Rs 4,170 crore for the Comprehensive Underground Drainage (CUGD) project in Warangal, Telangana's second-largest city, as part of its master plan for urban development. He requested the Centre for the establishment of an integrated coach factory at Kazipet and a steel plant at Bayyaram as promised to Telangana under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.

Last year, the Chief Minister moved a resolution in the Legislative Assembly in July 2024 in protest against the Centre's indifferent attitude towards Telangana.
