Hyderabad: The Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Commission has submitted a report to the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on minor irrigation.
The commission made several key suggestions to the government in the report recommending re-establishing a separate minor irrigation system with technical units that increase water use efficiency.
It commission suggested that command area-based management systems should be established to connect small and large irrigation sources. The commission advised that a special minor irrigation law should be formulated for the conservation of ponds and advised that the full tank level (FTL) boundaries of ponds should be identified immediately and encroachments should be removed and protected.
The commission stated that the restoration of ponds is necessary for water security, agricultural stabilization and development of rural livelihoods in Telangana. The Chief Minister suggested that the commission focus on issues like crop rotation, increasing the cultivation of horticultural crops, and establishing FPOs.
On this occasion, the commission team explained to the Chief Minister the programs undertaken by it in the past two years and the suggestions given to the government. The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction with the performance of the commission.
