Adopt Data-Led, Unit-Specific Policing to Tackle Rising Crime: DGP C.V. Anand
He asked officers to identify emerging crime trends in advance and formulate specific action plans wherever required
Hyderabad:Director-General of Police C.V. Anand directed officers to adopt a data-led, unit-specific approach to policing, with greater emphasis on field-level action, professional standards and timely decision-making, against the backdrop of Telangana recording a steady increase in registered cases, from 2,65,377 during July 2023-June 2024 to 2,84,363 during July 2025-June 2026.
Addressing the half-yearly crime review meeting with senior officers of all units here on Friday, Anand directed all zonal DIGs and multi-sone IGs to examine inspection notes and instructed officers to take immediate action on issues identified during district tours and police station inspections. He asked officers to identify emerging crime trends in advance and formulate specific action plans wherever required. Senior IPS officers Mahesh Bhagwat, Shikha Goel, Charu Sinha, Sandeep Shandilya, police commissioners, district superintendents of police were present at the meeting.
Anand also called for strict adherence to timelines while updating data on digital policing portals. The CCTNS data update rate, which was earlier 70-80 per cent, had now reached 96 per cent. The DGP called for a special focus on narcotics and a hawkish approach towards organised crime. He asked senior officers to continuously reorient priorities according to the crime profile of their respective units and remain closely connected with the field.
Officials focused on technology-driven policing, with presentations on AI-based policing applications, CCTNS, TG-COP, Hawkeye and other digital platforms. The meeting also examined the implementation of the new criminal laws and ICJS, cybercrime initiatives, EAGLE and the functioning and workload of the FSL.
Junior IPS officers presented policing innovations and technology-driven initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency and public service delivery. The meeting also discussed financial and budgetary matters, housing projects, infrastructure requirements, operational issues and the rehabilitation of surrendered Maoists.
Anand emphasised that effective policing required strong basic policing practices, timely analysis of data, technology-driven interventions and sustained supervision. He said unit-level accountability, timely decisions and focused field action would be crucial to strengthening crime prevention and improving the overall effectiveness of the Telangana Police.
