Adivasi Groups Celebrate World Indigenous Peoples’ Day

ADILABAD: International Indigenous Peoples’ Day was celebrated across the erstwhile Adilabad district on Saturday.

The Raj Gond Seva Samiti organised a programme in Asifabad, where Adivasi girls and boys performed traditional dances. Asifabad collector Venkatesh Dhotre and SP Kantilal participated in the event.

Former Adilabad MP and Samiti state president Soyam Bapurao, Komaram Bheem’s grandson Komaram Sonerao, and senior Congress leader Atram Suguna took part in celebrations held in Asifabad and Jodeghat, where they paid rich tributes to Komaram Bheem.

Tudum Debba state president Kotnak Vijay, MLA Kova Laxmi, and Adivasi leader Bursa Pochaiah participated in separate celebrations in Asifabad.

Adivasi Sena and Adivasi Sankesham Parishad also organised programmes in villages to mark the occasion.

A massive rally was taken out in Adilabad town under the banner of Tudum Debba, led by working president Godam Ganesh, who garlanded the statue of Komaram Bheem.

The CPI (ML) Mass Line celebrated International Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Nishanghat village, Adilabad Rural mandal. On the occasion, district secretary Jagan Singh demanded that the state government revoke GO 49.

Adilabad collector Rajarshi Shah, ITDA project officer Khushboo Gupta, SP Akhil Mahajan, and ASP Kajal Singh participated in celebrations in Utnoor and paid rich tributes to legendary Adivasi leader Komaram Bheem.

Mancherial collector Kumar Deepak attended the local celebrations in Mancherial town.
