Adilabad To Get Telangana’s Largest Joint Airfield After Shamshabad
Defence-civil aviation project aims to boost connectivity and industrial growth.

Hyderabad: Adilabad will soon host Telangana’s largest joint airfield after Hyderabad’s Shamshabad airport, BJP MLA Payal Shankar said on Thursday after handing over official land allotment documents to Defence Ministry Joint Secretary Mahanti in New Delhi.
Shankar said the project, planned on 1,980 acres, would transform the backward district into an industrial and economic hub with the joint efforts of the Centre and the state government.
He handed over Telangana government-approved allotment papers for 1,580 acres required for the airport to the defence ministry official. The state has agreed to allot 1,500 acres to the Ministry of Defence and 80 acres to the Airports Authority of India, in addition to 369.45 acres already under the defence ministry’s control.
Shankar said the state government had offered 1,580 acres, against the Centre’s requirement of 1,550 acres, to ensure land readiness. He added that the state had also written to the Centre agreeing to bear Rs 310 crore for relocating existing 765-kV high-tension power lines around the proposed site to prevent disruption to flight operations once the airport’s 9,000-foot runway becomes operational.
The joint airfield, he said, would support the Indian Air Force’s flying training establishment and enable full-scale civil aviation operations from Adilabad. He said the project would bring major changes to the district’s defence and transport infrastructure.
The project, along with plans for a 2,000-acre industrial corridor, is expected to generate employment and industrial opportunities for local youth.
Shankar thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for their support in advancing the long-pending demand for an airport in Adilabad.
