Adilabad Students Learn Road Rules Before Schools Reopen

Nearly 200 students were taken in batches to the park to familiarise them with traffic rules and road safety practices

ADILABAD: The transport department in Adilabad has launched a road safety awareness drive for students ahead of the reopening of schools in June, taking them to the Traffic Awareness Park at Chavara Academy School in the town.

The initiative, undertaken on the instructions of collector Rajarshi Shah, covered students attending summer camps in PMC government schools. Nearly 200 students were taken in batches to the park to familiarise them with traffic rules and road safety practices.

Motor vehicle inspector Vidyadhara Reddy said awareness of traffic rules must begin in childhood in view of rising road accidents. He said the park helps students understand the importance of traffic signals, zebra crossings, and the use of helmets and seat belts through practical exposure.

A Class IX student, Pandiri Sneha of ZPSS Yapalguda, said, “We learnt about traffic rules and road safety, and the knowledge gained during the visit will help us while crossing roads and driving vehicles in future.”

Chavara Academy principal Sanoop Joseph also addressed the students on traffic awareness. Education department sectoral officer Ushkam Tirupati said such programmes help inculcate social and individual responsibility among students alongside academics.

Meanwhile, about 600 students are participating in a month-long summer camp being organised at the police headquarters in Adilabad and at police stations in Boath, Ichoda, Narnoor and Indravelli under the initiative of superintendent of police Akhil Mahajan.

As part of the camp, students were taken to two town police stations on May 23 and briefed on their functioning. Two Town SI Pranay Kumar explained the notice board, FIR procedures, lock-up, communication systems and general diary entries.
