Adilabad Records High Jowar Procurement in Rabi
According to officials, jowar was cultivated in 1.12 lakh acres this season, with yields higher than in previous years.

Adilabad: Adilabad district has recorded high jowar procurement during the current rabi season, with total output estimated at 16 lakh quintals, officials said.
Farmers reported higher yields and returns due to improved production and Minimum Support Price (MSP). In some areas, yields touched an average of 25 quintals per acre. Several farmers shifted to jowar as a second crop after incurring losses in cotton in the erstwhile Adilabad district.
According to officials, jowar was cultivated in 1.12 lakh acres this season, with yields higher than in previous years. District collector Rajarshi Sha said about 7 lakh quintals were expected to arrive in markets, as some farmers retained produce for household consumption.
He said 5.87 lakh quintals had so far been procured from 19,889 farmers. Last year, 56,000 metric tonnes were procured through 56 centres. This year, procurement arrangements were expanded in view of higher output.
Officials said the increase in procurement centres reduced transportation costs, enabling farmers to sell produce at nearby centres.
Procurement is expected to be completed within three days. The MSP of ₹3,699 per quintal is being ensured, with payments credited to farmers’ bank accounts.
Farmer Chityala Bhoomanna of Mediguda village in Sathnala mandal said he cultivated jowar on 20 acres and harvested 500 quintals. He said farmers earned profits this season as the government procured the crop at ₹3,699 per quintal.
