Adilabad Police Intensify Vigil Over Inter-State Robbery Gangs
Police boost surveillance near Maharashtra border after Karimnagar robbery case

Adilabad: Adilabad police have intensified their surveillance over movements of inter-state robbery gangs, following information that these gangs are using the districts bordering Maharashtra to enter Telangana for robberies and flee from the scene once their task is completed.
This is based on the sequence of events that unfolded in the PMJ Jewellery shop robbery case in Karimnagar.
Adilabad police have alerted owners of gold and jewellery shops, especially in the areas sharing borders with Maharashtra, to be alert from a security point of view. Adilabad is well connected with bus and rail transportation. Maharashtra border is just 20 km from the Adilabad town. There are many village routes in Adilabad district to sneak into Maharashtra by crossing River Penganga.
Adilabad police are conducting checks at bus stands, railway stations, and market areas with the help of Roma, a sniffer dog trained in checking narcotics. A close watch is being kept on the movement of suspicious persons moving in Adilabad district. Police are regularly checking lodges to verify the possibility of robbers checking in.
On the other hand, Asifabad police have asked people to give them information about persons they appoint to work as servants, cooks, security guards, and drivers. They have cited two incidents in this regard, including the murder of a former IPS officer’s wife by her Nepali employees in Hyderabad in the recent past.
Komaram Bheem Asifabad superintendent of police Nitika Pant said house owners should collect details of persons, like Aadhaar cards and mobile number, before giving them houses on rent or employing them in jobs, especially if they are Nepalese. Residents can pass this information to local police for verification.
Adilabad SP Akhil Mahajan asked jewellery shops to improve security and set up high-resolution CCTV cameras inside and outside their shops, apart from metal detectors, to check for weapons. The DVR of the CCTV cameras must be kept in a protected and hidden place. They can secretly alert police or dial 100 in case of any robbery attempt.
Adilabad Gold Shops Owners' Association president Devidas said, “We are focusing on improving security at our shops to avoid thefts and robberies, as per the instructions of police.”
