Adilabad: ‘Missing’ beneficiaries seek edit options at gram sabhas

Adilabad: A surge in fresh applications was reported during the gram sabhas and ward sabhas for four welfare schemes, as many previous applicants found their names missing from the beneficiaries’ lists.

On the second day of the sabhas, held peacefully except for sporadic protests, doubts about the selection process were voiced by attendees. Several people who were excluded from the initial lists reapplied for the schemes.
According to officials, 5,359 fresh applications for Indiramma houses, 14,019 for ration cards, 4,528 for Indiramma Atmiya Bharosa, and 38 for Rythu Bharosa have been received in Adilabad district so far. The large number of applications reflects a disparity between the listed beneficiaries and eligible applicants identified through integrated household surveys.
Residents urged the state government to introduce editing options to correct errors in the computerised household survey data, citing mismatched names, surnames, Aadhaar numbers, and property details as reasons for exclusion.
Officials assured applicants that welfare scheme applications are part of a continuous process, and those not selected now could reapply without concern. However, confusion persists among applicants, leading to protests.
In Bheemaram, Mancherial district, people staged demonstrations over their exclusion from the lists, while residents of Indravelli gram panchayat in Adilabad district questioned the criteria used for beneficiary selection. Officials are yet to provide clarity on these concerns.
