Adilabad: Devotional tourism is picking up in Adilabad district with its hilltop temples attracting large numbers of devotees owing to their location and ambience.

Traditionally, devotees have considered temples on hills as more sacred and powerful in granting their pleas, especially if they are in forests. Moreover, for families with children, they turn out to be an outing.

A few such temples include Sri Shikhar Kailash Tekidi Narmadeeshwar Temple of Lord Shiva, constructed at a height of 300 metres on a hill near Nigini village in Boath mandal. There is Lord Venkateshwara Swamy Temple at Bharampur in Talamadugu mandal.

Kailash Tekidi Temple is 75 km from Adilabad district headquarters. An RTC bus is available up to Boath. From there, devotees take a private vehicle to reach the temple. Venkateshwara Swamy Temple is 20 km from Adilabad town. Its special feature is the Koneru, the pond atop the hill near the temple.

Both the Lord Shiva and Lord Venkateshwara temples have an excellent view. One can see a series of hillocks and farmers working in agricultural fields around Venkateshwara Swamy hilltop temple.

A devotee Padma from Warangal, who recently visited the Venkateshwara Swamy Temple at Bharampur, said she felt excited with a flying-in-the-air feeling because of the breeze that flows around the temple premises.

These hilltop shrines have emerged as temple tourism spots. Devotee Naresh Sudhi of Boath said hundreds of devotees visit Kailash Tekidi Shiva Temple on special occasions. They feel quite peaceful in the middle of nature.

An ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, Tula Srinivas, who is looking after development of this temple for a long time, said a large number of devotees throng Kailash Tekidi as they can feel the Lord’s power. Many of the devotees have had their wishes fulfilled after visiting this temple.

Every Monday, nearly five thousand devotees visit the temple. Limbaji Maharaj of Dayal Dannur village in Maharashtra is the one who started the construction of this temple for Lord Shiva. He said God Shiva appeared in his dream in 2002. Since then, he has spent ₹2 crore received from devotees on development of the temple.
