The complaint stated that Dharmendra had met Ashwini Reddy, popularly known as Ashu Reddy, in 2018 through mutual contacts. She allegedly promised marriage despite his ongoing divorce and sought financial help citing personal expenses, loans and her film career.

In July 2020, when Dharmendra sought to formalise the marriage, she allegedly refused. A settlement meeting reportedly mediated by actress Hema followed, where Ashwini Reddy reportedly agreed to repay ₹70 lakh and issued blank cheques, which were later taken back and destroyed, police quoting from the complaint said.
The complaint stated that the relationship resumed in November 2020 after her family intervened and assured marriage. Financial transactions continued between 2020 and 2025, including purchase of a flat, with ₹1.8 crore paid as advance, and gold worth about 5 kg. Ashwini Reddy’s sister Venkata Divya Reddy Koyya was also accused of receiving Rs 50 lakh. Complainant Murthy further stated that in July 2025, Ashwini Reddy again refused to marry Dharmendra and stopped communications.
The complainant alleged that the money and assets were not returned and that threats of false cases were issued. A case (Crime 78 of 2026) has been registered based on the complaint.
Sources disclosed that ACB V. Narsimha Reddy of the economic offences wing Team-L is the investigation officer.
