Hyderabad: Governor’s Special Chief Secretary and Chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society, Telangana State Branch, M. Dana Kishore has called for coordinated awareness campaigns across all districts to educate young people about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promote a drug-free society.

Following directions of the Governor, Dana Kishore reviewed the implementation of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan at a video conference with executive members of district Red Cross branches at Lok Bhavan on Monday.

Professor A. Sriramulu, General Secretary and CEO of the State Red Cross branch, also participated in the meeting.

Dana Kishore said the Governor would formally launch the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan in Telangana. He asked district Red Cross branches to prepare comprehensive action plans and organise awareness rallies, seminars in educational institutions, poster exhibitions, pledge-taking programmes and other outreach activities after Dasara.

He called for the participation of Junior and Youth Red Cross volunteers, the National Service Scheme (NSS), the National Cadet Corps (NCC), and Scouts and Guides. District branches were directed to coordinate with university vice-chancellors and educational institutions to ensure effective outreach.

Emphasising the health, familial and social consequences of drug abuse, he said the campaign should encourage healthy lifestyles among young people and develop into a sustained public movement.

Dana Kishore appreciated the district branches for their contribution to expanding Red Cross membership across the State. Referring to the progress in increasing membership of Bharat Scouts and Guides, he called for the effective utilisation of their volunteers in Red Cross activities.

Reviewing the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, he stressed the need to supplement medical treatment for tuberculosis patients with appropriate nutritional assistance.

District Red Cross branches were asked to coordinate with District Medical and Health Officers (DMHOs) and District TB Units to identify patients requiring such support. He also called for the mobilisation of local donors, charitable and voluntary organisations, industrial establishments and other contributors to provide nutritional kits or suitable food assistance to eligible patients.

Transparent beneficiary identification, regular monitoring and coordination with the concerned health authorities were emphasised to ensure that assistance reached those in need.

Dana Kishore called upon the Indian Red Cross Society to strengthen its contribution to youth welfare, public health and community awareness. He directed district branches to formulate clear implementation plans for both campaigns, with an emphasis on volunteer participation, coordination with government departments, mobilisation of donor support and continuous monitoring of progress.

He further instructed all district branches to work closely with government departments, educational institutions, voluntary organisations and donors to ensure the effective implementation of the programmes.
