Accused in a Murder, Theft Case Dies While Police Shifting Him to Suryapet After His Arrest in AP

He was traced to Gayalagudem near Eluru, where a police team took him into custody.

Nalgonda:An accused in a murder and theft case died reportedly after falling ill while being shifted from Eluru in Andhra Pradesh to Suryapet following his arrest, police said on Monday.

Suryapet district superintendent of police K. Narsimha identified the accused as Shiva Koti Saidula Chary, 50, arrested in alleged connection with the murder of Irugu Papamma, 60, in Suryapet on April 18, during which gold ornaments were stolen. Police said CCTV footage showed the accused’s movements near the victim’s house, leading to his identification. He was traced to Gayalagudem near Eluru, where a police team took him into custody.

According to the SP, the accused had mortgaged the stolen gold with a finance firm for ₹1,44,900. Police recovered ₹51,000 from him, while the remaining amount had been spent.

Police said Saidula Chary fell ill during the shift to Suryapet. He was administered CPR and taken to the Government Hospital in Kodad, where doctors declared him dead. An inquiry has been ordered into the death.
