ACB Traps Agriculture Officer Taking Rs 30,000 Bribe

ACB Sleuths Nab Officer While Accepting Bribe for Issuing Cotton Cultivation Token

Kothegudem: Sleuths from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday caught agriculture officer D. Sharath Kumar of Aswaraopet red-handed while accepting a Rs 30,000 bribe from a farmer. The bribe was solicited in exchange for issuing a token that confirmed the farmer's cotton cultivation area a mandatory document required by CII purchasing centres to facilitate the sale of the crop.

According to ACB deputy superintendent of police Y. Ramesh, the officer exploited the system by demanding Rs 30,000 from the farmer for the issuance of this token. When the farmer, unable to pay the amount, reported the matter to the authorities, ACB officials devised a plan that led to the arrest. The officer was caught in his office while accepting the bribe, and a subsequent chemical test confirmed the presence of contraband substances on both his hands.

Sharath Kumar is set to be arrested and will be produced before the special court for SPE and ACB cases in Warangal, the ACB DSP confirmed.
