Hyderabad: ACB Court Sends Bhujanga Rao To 14-Day Remand in DA Case

ACB officials on Wednesday had conducted searches at his residences and simultaneous searches at 15 locations linked to his relatives and associates across Nalgonda, Suryapet, and Sangareddy districts.

Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Special Court in Nampally on Thursday sent suspended ASP Nayani Bhujanga Rao to 14 days of judicial custody in a disproportionate assets case and shifted him to Chanchalguda jail.

ACB officials on Wednesday had conducted searches at two of his residences, one at Sairam Towers in Miyapur and another at Prashanth Nagar in Vanasthalipuram. Simultaneous searches were also carried out at 15 locations linked to his relatives and associates across Nalgonda, Suryapet, and Sangareddy districts.

Officials said they unearthed movable and immovable assets worth approximately Rs 5.92 crore based on registration value. Documents relating to 27.29 acres of agricultural land in Suryapet and Nalgonda districts, five open plots, two houses, and one commercial building in Hyderabad were found. Officials also seized Rs 3.83 lakh in cash, bank balances of Rs 8 lakh, gold ornaments weighing 1 kg, a Maruti Swift and a Kia Seltos. The market value of the combined seized property is estimated to be over Rs 100 crore. As Bhujanga Rao could not account for the assets, he was arrested.

Rao, who is a key accused in the illegal phone-tapping case, was arrested nearly two years ago and was later released on bail. The ACB conducted the latest raids after a detailed inquiry into his assets.
