ABVP School Bandh Against Proposed Reduction in Govt Schools
They also sought enforcement of a 25 per cent quota for poorer children in private schools.

Hyderabad: Several private and corporate schools in Hyderabad remained closed on Tuesday after ABVP Telangana called a statewide school bandh against the proposed reduction in government schools from 27,000 to 4,000 and unchecked fee collection by private institutions. The organisation also demanded a fee regulation law, recruitment to vacant education posts and better facilities in government and Gurukul schools.
“Fee hikes and schools’ closure are our main concern,” said Antariksh, city media in charge, ABVP.
They also sought enforcement of a 25 per cent quota for poorer children in private schools, recruitment to vacant MEO, DEO, teaching and non-teaching posts, immediate distribution of uniforms and permanent buildings for Gurukul schools. “Let us protect government schools and stop the financial exploitation by private schools,” said ABVP while also demanding better food in residential schools, expansion of the breakfast scheme across Telangana, adoption of the national education policy, 2020, and curbs on private schools selling books and uniforms.
Several school managements decided to stay shut due to the bandh. A school in Shaikpet suspended physical classes from nursery to class VIII and students of classes IX to XII attended online lessons according to their regular timetable.
ABVP activists, including state secretary Macharla Rambabu, entered the campus of the government high school at Lok Bhavan, which remained open and following am argument, police detained the protesters.
