A Mother’s Sacrifice Helps Son Get Top 10 Rank In AIIMS PG Test

Empati Kushwanth bags all-India 9th rank in AIIMS PG Entrance Exam

WARANGAL: Empati Kushwanth, hailing from small town Bhupalpally, secured the 9th rank at the national level AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) New Delhi PG entrance exam after completing MBBS. His achievement put the spotlight on his mother who never gave up on his dreams.

Deccan Chronicle got in touch with Kushwanth to show his achievements, determination and struggles he faced to reach remarkable milestones in his life.

DC: Congratulations Kushwanth on securing the 9th rank in the AIIMS PG entrance exam and for being the only student from Telugu states to secure a position in the top 10 rank. How does it feel?

Kushwanth: This rank is not just mine but also belongs to my mother who has been a pillar of strength through everything. I thank Deccan Chronicle for supporting me right from my 10th class by highlighting my hard work and success by publishing my achievements time-to-time in the esteemed newspaper.

DC: Tell us about your background and how your journey began

Kushwanth: I come from a humble background in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district. My father passed away when I was young. My mother Anitha raised me and my young brother working on a sewing machine. There were so many financial struggles and she faced so many difficulties.

DC: You have always been an excellent student, scoring 10/10 in your SSC and then achieving first rank in Telangana EAMCET and 10th rank Andhra Pradesh. What motivated you to perform at such a high level?

Kushwanth : My mother’s sacrifices were my biggest motivation. I saw how hard she worked for us. She always pushed us to study, to aim high. Seeing the joy in her eyes now, all those past hardships feel insignificant, I owe her my entire life.

Apart from that, the support I received from then Collector Vasam Venkateshwarlu, Minister K.T. Rama Rao, then local MLA Gandra Venkataramana Reddy and the management of Singareni where my father worked gave me determination. I didn’t want to let them down.

DC: After your initial success, you secured a seat for MBBS at AIIMS Delhi, which itself is a dream. How was your experience studying there?

Kushwanth: AIIMS is a world-class institution and being surrounded by brilliant people. Both the faculty and fellow students were truly inspiring. The five and a half years they prepared me not just academically but also changed my perspective on medicine and patient care.

DC: What problems you faced and hard work you did to secure 9th rank nationally?

Kushwanth: This rank means everything. It is the result of years of hard work. I studied more than eight hours per day for the past five months onwards, unable to sleep at nights, not able to take food timely, but it is the full support extended by my mother who used to feed me even late at night and take care of me. I was able to concentrate on my studies.

DC: After this massive achievement, what are your future plans?

Kushwanth : My goal is to pursue General Medicine and then to take any specialty. I want to become a compassionate and skilled doctor, making a difference in people’s lives. I will always remember the support I received from everyone who helped me and especially Deccan Chronicle for being with me from the beginning.

DC: What message do you want to give for aspiring students from humble backgrounds?

Kushwanth: My message is simple, even though you derive motivation from external sources, it is more important that one should have internal motivation and determination. Never give up on your dreams no matter how difficult the situations you face. Work hard, dedication, commitment and believe in yourself will take you to greater heights. And always remember the people who support you.
