90,000 Telugu aspirants likely to apply for civil services in May

Hyderabad: Nearly 90,000 aspirants from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are expected to apply for the 2025 Civil Services examination, according to the notification released by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Wednesday.

The preliminary examination, scheduled for May 25, will be held in six centres, including Hyderabad, Warangal, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, and Anantapur. At the national level, around 10 lakh applications are anticipated for 979 vacancies across 23 services.

The upper age limit set is 32 years for general and EWS candidates. Age relaxation is up to 35 years for OBC candidates and 37 years for those from SC and ST categories.

Meanwhile, many experts opine that the examination is conducted in three stages-preliminary, mains, and interview and it is tough to clear the preliminary stage due to its high rejection rate.

An expert added that usually, at an all-India level, only 46 per cent to 48 per cent of the applicants actually show up at the centres.

“However in the Hyderabad centre the percentage is around 56 per cent, which shows the increased interest of students from the Telugu-speaking states towards civil services,” the director of a coaching centre in the city said.

Candidates can apply online through the official UPSC website before February 11.
