800 Booked for Drunken Driving During Special Checks

Police said enforcement drives would continue across Cyberabad to curb drunk driving and prevent road accidents.

Hyderabad: The city and Cyberabad traffic police booked over 800 motorists for driving drunk, during special checks over the weekend.

The Hyderabad traffic police booked 403 drivers for driving drunk, eight of whom had BAC level of over 300 against the ceiling of 30 micrograms of alcohol per 100 ml of blood, D. Joel Davis, joint commissioner, city traffic police, affirmed that there would be zero tolerance of drunk driving.

The Cyberabad traffic police booked 409 offenders, with Miyapur topping the chart with 81 cases, followed by Chevella (44) and Shamshabad (34). Two-wheeler riders formed the majority of offenders, and over one-third of drunk drivers were in the 31-40 age group.

Police said enforcement drives would continue across Cyberabad to curb drunk driving and prevent road accidents. During the festive season and weekend period, the checks would intensify.
