8 NSP Gates Lifted As Water Levels Rise

Nalgonda: As inflow to the Nagarjunasagar Project (NSP) increased, eight crest gates were lifted to a height of five feet, releasing 64,800 cusecs of water downstream. With the water level reaching the full reservoir height of 590 feet, officials took measures to balance inflows and outflows. Two crest gates were opened at 11 am, followed by another two at 4 pm. By 6 pm, as inflow rose to 65,842 cusecs, all eight crest gates remained lifted to five feet.

The current water storage in the project stands at 312 tmc ft, matching its gross storage capacity. Presently, 6,041 cusecs of water is being released into the right canal and 7,518 cusecs into the left canal. In addition, 29,435 cusecs are being discharged through the main powerhouse, 1,800 cusecs into the AMRP canal, and 300 cusecs into the low-level canal. The total outflow from the project is recorded at 1.09 lakh cusecs.

Meanwhile, water is also being released from the Musi irrigation project at Bopparam village in Kattangur mandal. Three gates have been lifted by two feet, releasing 3,850 cusecs downstream. The water level in the reservoir currently stands at 6433 feet, compared to its full reservoir level of 645 feet.
