8 BRS, 2 BJP, One Cong Candidate Lose Security Deposits

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi not only lost all the 17 Lok Sabha constituencies it contested from but also had to face the ignominy of eight of its candidates losing their security deposits. Losing of security deposits is generally viewed as the worst that could happen to a political party and its candidates in an election.

Among the BRS candidates who lost their deposits was the party candidate from Hyderabad, Gaddam Srinivas Yadav, who managed to scrape 18,641 votes, and in the process became the BRS candidate to secure the least number of votes in these elections.

Joining him in the list of deposit losers were also one candidate from Congress– Md Waliullah Sameer from Hyderabad constituency – and two from the BJP – Vinod Rao Tandra from Khammam, and Prof Azmeera Seetaram Naik from Mahbubabad.

The other BRS candidates to lose their security deposits were Athram Sakku (Adilabad), Bajireddy Goverdhan Reddy (Nizamabad), Ragidi Laxma Reddy (Malkajgiri), T. Padma Rao Goud (Secunderabad), Kasani Gnaneshwar Mudiraj (Chevella), Gali Anil Kumar (Zaheerabad), and Manne Srinivas Reddy (Mahbubnagar).

The ECI mandates that any candidate who does not get at least one-sixth of the votes polled will lose the security deposit. For general category candidates the security deposit is 25,000, and for those contesting from constituencies reserved for the SC and ST communities, the security deposit is 12,500.
