Police suspect robbery; CCTV shows two youths entering house during daytime

Hyderabad: A 75-year-old woman, Susheelamma, was found murdered at her residence near Church Gagillapur in Dundigal on Monday evening. According to Medchal ACP Ch. Shankar Reddy, the septuagenarian, was living with her grandson, Jeevan Reddy.
Police suspect the incident occurred between 1 pm and 5 pm, when the grandson was away at work. On his return, Jeevan found Susheelamma lying in a pool of blood on the sofa and alerted the police. Her gold earrings and property documents were reported missing.
CCTV footage from the area showed two young assailants entering the house, though no weapons were visible. Police said her face was found covered with a pillow.
The body was shifted to Gandhi Hospital mortuary for postmortem. A case of murder has been registered and an investigation is underway. Police are yet to announce any arrests, with further details expected after a press briefing on Wednesday.
Youth held for provocative social media post
Adilabad: Bela police on Tuesday arrested a 20-year-old man for allegedly posting a provocative message on social media that threatened communal harmony in Adilabad district.
The accused was identified as Botla Vamshi Yadav of Cheprala village in Bela mandal. Police said the arrest followed a complaint lodged by Huzur Khan of the same mandal, who alleged that the post was aimed at provoking two communities.
Bela police registered a case against Yadav. Jainad CI G. Shravan and Bela SI L. Praveen said they were closely monitoring social media activity and initiating action against those posting sensitive content.
Life term, long jail awarded for child sex fiends
Hyderabad: The city police said they had secured convictions in five separate cases involving grave sexual offences against minor girls. The verdicts were delivered by Sessions Courts and Fast Track Special Courts, according to Dr Lavanya N.J.P., DCP, Women Safety Wing, on Tuesday.
The cases were registered with Begumpet, Banjara Hills, Bhavaninagar and SR Nagar police stations, and involved rape, attempt to rape, criminal intimidation and child enticement. Victims were aged between four and 12 years, assaulted by persons known to them, including neighbours, acquaintances and, in one case, the victim’s father.
In one case, the court awarded rigorous imprisonment till death to a man who sexually assaulted his 12-year-old daughter. In another, a neighbour was sentenced to 25 years for assaulting a nine-year-old girl. A third case involving the luring and assault of an eight-year-old resulted in 20 years’ imprisonment. Two other cases of sexual assault and attempted rape on girls aged four and eight years ended in five years’ imprisonment each.
Besides imprisonment, fines were imposed and victim compensation ranging from ₹2 lakh to ₹5 lakh was ordered, providing financial relief under compensation schemes.
Dr Lavanya said all victims disclosed the offences to their mothers or guardians, leading to prompt registration of complaints and referral to the Bharosa Centre. The centre provided psychological counselling, legal and trial support, medical assistance and ensured families resisted pressure to compromise. All victims are continuing their education and performing well academically.
The convictions were achieved through meticulous investigation by police inspectors and sub-inspectors, effective prosecution by public prosecutors, and close coordination by court liaison officers and duty staff. Senior officers of the Women Safety Wing monitored progress to ensure accountability.
City police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar appreciated the dedication of officers, prosecutors and Bharosa staff, reaffirming the commitment of Hyderabad Police to protect children and secure justice for victims of sexual offences.
