62pc Flagged Voters Receive Notices For Unmapped With Last SIR
The study found that 32.4 lakh voters, or more than one-third of those receiving notices, were flagged as ‘unmapped with Last SIR’, while 26 lakh, or 28 per cent, were flagged for ‘parents name mismatch’
Hyderabad: More than 58 lakh voters, accounting for 62 per cent of the 92.85 lakh voters in Telangana being served notices as part of the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, were flagged under two key ‘logical discrepancies’ — ‘unmapped with Last SIR’ and ‘parents name mismatch’, according to a study by the Kolkata-based Sabar Institute.
The study found that 32.4 lakh voters, or more than one-third of those receiving notices, were flagged as ‘unmapped with Last SIR’, while 26 lakh, or 28 per cent, were flagged for ‘parents name mismatch’.
Other discrepancies identified included 'self name mismatch' involving 11 lakh voters, more than 15 years of age between parents and child (about 10 lakh), less than nine months of gap between two siblings (7.1 lakh), having more than six children (4 lakh), more than 40 years of difference between the age of grandparent and grandchild (3.7 lakh), and more than 50 years of age difference for parents (3.1 lakh) and others (2 lakh).
Among the 119 Assembly constituencies in Telangana, Quthbullapur recorded the highest proportion of voters receiving notices at 66.6 per cent, followed by Kukatpally at 65.4 per cent. Uppal, Medchal, Serilingampally, Patancheru, Malkajgiri, Lal Bahadur Nagar, Rajendranagar and Nizamabad (Urban) recorded notices to more than 40 per cent of the electorate on the draft rolls.
“A notice rate of 31.3 per cent is seen from the total state electorate of about 2.96 crore voters (from the draft electoral rolls). The rate is not uniform, it runs past 60 per cent in the Hyderabad-periphery seats and below 15 per cent in parts of Khammam and Nalgonda,” the institute explained in its report.
According to the institute, the Assembly constituencies, where Muslims accounted for more than 20 per cent of voters receiving notices, were Adilabad (20.22 per cent), Bodhan (28.86), Banswada (20.86), Nizamabad Urban (37.83), Karimnagar (21), Zaheerabad (29.5), Sangareddy (23.76), Rajendranagar (24.51), Malakpet (46.13), Jubilee Hills (30.59), Nampally (57.35), Karwan (54.56), Goshamahal (22.17), Charminar (61.32), Chandrayangutta (71.15), Yakutpura (61.16), Bahadurpura (85.18), Mahbubnagar (23.52) and Warangal East (21.18 per cent).
The report said: “14.16 per cent of notices name Muslims, against 13.38 per cent of the electorate. Six of the nine criteria (discrepancy) fall on Muslims names more often that Census share (12.7 per cent) of the population.” The institute said the data for the study was compiled by downloading polling station-wise discrepancy PDFs from the CEO Telangana portal. Of the 36,353 polling stations, PDFs for 184 were not available. “The portal answers requests for them, with data will be uploaded shortly,” it added.
