60-Year-Old Woman Lodges Complaint On Neighbour For Beating Hen

A 60-year-old woman surprised police with her argument for filing a cruelty-to-animals complaint against a neighbour who struck her hen with a stick: Report

NALGONDA: A 60-year-old woman surprised police with her argument for filing a cruelty-to-animals complaint against a neighbour who struck her hen with a stick.

The incident, captured on video, went viral on social media. Kadari Gangamma, a resident of Gollagudem in Nakrekal mandal, Nalgonda district, arrived at Nakrekal Police Station with her injured hen and insisted that officers register a case against her neighbour, Chiraboina Rakesh. She explained that she had raised the bird “with love” and demanded action under anti-cruelty laws.

When the officers initially laughed, Gangamma chastised them for lacking compassion toward animals and birds. She pointed out that farmers pay fines when their cattle damage crops, and offered to pay any fine if her hen had entered Rakesh’s property. “The law should treat hens and cattle equally,” she argued.

Police suggested Rakesh compensate her for the hen’s medical care, but Gangamma refused. “Life matters more than money, whether it’s an animal or a hen,” she declared, adding that only a formal complaint would deter Rakesh from attacking poultry in the future.

She left the station after officers assured her they would do justice.

Rakesh, however, claimed he had only thrown a stick to chase the bird off his property and did not intend to injure it. He alleged that an existing dispute between their families motivated Gangamma to escalate the matter. Circle Inspector K. Rajasekhar said the scene would be resolved amicably through mutual agreement between Gangamma and Rakesh.
