Hyderabad: A 60‑year‑old man died and his 55‑year‑old brother was critically injured, when a 17‑year‑old rammed into them in a rented car near a school at Karmikanagar on Sunday morning. The brothers were on a two‑wheeler heading to a church Mass when the car hit them at about 9.45 am, Madhuranagar police said.
The minor, driving a white car (TS09 FK 4804), lost control of the vehicle, knocked down the victims and crashed into some parked bikes and came to a halt some distance away. A CCTV video showed the riders purportedly veering to the left on noticing the car, which swerved across the road and hit the victims.
Raj Kumar was shifted to a hospital in Yousufguda, where he succumbed to injuries. His brother M. Prabhakar was taken to another hospital and remains in critical condition, according to Madhuranagar station house officer H. Prabhakar.
Locals rushed to rescue the brothers who were trapped under the vehicle and alerted police. “We were going towards Madhuranagar when we saw the accident,” a resident, M. Sudheer told Deccan Chronicle. “The two bike riders came under the car which came to a stop after dragging them for a distance. Along with the locals, we lifted the car and rescued the two persons. We then called the police.”
One of the injured persons was found unconscious under the right rear wheel of the car. “We lifted the car and pulled him out,” Ashok Kumar, another resident, said.
Police seized the car and identified the driver as a student of a college at Borabanda. His father has been informed of the incident, police said.
During investigation police found that the minor driver’s colleagemate Md Nawaz, 19. took the car on rent from one Arbaz at Sriramnagar. Nawaz drove the car up to Karmikanagar and stopped the car, reportedly to relieve himself. Police said Nawaz’s cousin Imam move the car to a side of the road and left, leaving the key in the ignition switch of the car.

The body of Raj Kumar, a private company employee, has been sent to Gandhi Hospital for post‑mortem. Police booked a case of rash and negligent driving under Section 304‑A against the minor and the car owner. CCTV footage of the incident has been collected for prosecution.
“We have collected the CCTV footage in which the accident scene has been captured. It will be used as an exhibit during prosecution,” the SHO said.
