6 Held for Cheating Public with Fake Gold

Nalgonda: Nalgonda Town–I police on Friday arrested six members of a gang involved in cheating unsuspecting people by selling fake gold jewellery and recovered ₹1.5 lakh in cash from their possession.
The arrested accused were identified as Ramesh Kumar, 30, Raja Ram, 38, Mahendra Kumar, 19, Mana Ram, 38, Suresh Kumar, 28, and Deva Ram, 45, all natives of Rajasthan. Another gang member, Puran Kumar, is absconding.
Presenting the accused at a media conference at the Nalgonda Town–I police station, deputy superintendent of police K. Shivaram Reddy said the gang had cheated the owner of Vinayaka Kirana Shop at Nehru Ganj, Nalgonda, of ₹5 lakh. The accused allegedly offered to sell gold jewellery worth ₹15 lakh for ₹5 lakh, claiming they urgently needed money. After collecting the cash, they handed over fake gold ornaments to the shop owner.
The DSP said the gang had been camping at Kathalguda on the outskirts of Nalgonda, where they erected temporary huts and moved around colonies posing as plastic item sellers. They targeted gullible people by luring them with offers of gold at throwaway prices.
He cautioned the public to remain vigilant and not to entertain anyone offering gold at unusually low prices without proper receipts. Acting on credible information, the police arrested the gang at Prakasham Bazar and seized ₹1.5 lakh in cash and about half a kilogram of fake gold from them.
