52K Indiramma houses ready to occupy: Ponguleti

Replying during Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly, the minister said the government had sanctioned 4.50 lakh houses in the first phase.

Hyderabad: Housing minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on Saturday informed the Assembly that as many as 52,000 houses constructed under the Indiramma Housing Scheme are ready for house-warming ceremonies by beneficiaries in Telangana.

Replying during Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly, the minister said the government had sanctioned 4.50 lakh houses in the first phase. Of these, approximately three lakh are in various stages of construction, while 52,000 are ready for occupancy. He added that construction of the first-phase houses would be completed before the next monsoon season. Sanctioning of Indiramma houses, he revealed, would continue in three more phases.

Srinivasa Reddy announced that the scheme would be implemented as a continuous process to provide housing to every eligible poor person in the state. “The Indiramma Housing Scheme, which stands as a symbol of self-respect for the poor, will see houses sanctioned every year during March and April,” he said.

The minister noted that the Congress government had released ₹204 crore for houses left incomplete during the previous regime, which had failed to provide financial assistance. He pointed out that 36,000 houses in 133 colonies across the state were left with only bare walls and lacked basic amenities.

“Following the suggestions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarkha, civic amenities have been provided with ₹744 crore. Some 2BHK houses were constructed but not allocated to anyone, and ₹455 crore has now been sanctioned for the incomplete houses, which will also be handed over to eligible beneficiaries. We are also constructing houses in Vasalamarri, a place where a prominent figure from the previous government had promised but failed to deliver,” Srinivasa Reddy said.

He further stated that the then government had sanctioned houses costing ₹3 lakh each in 2014 but did not release the funds. Land would now be identified and sanctioned for housing construction within GHMC limits. Meetings would be organised with public representatives in the erstwhile districts to address housing issues. Beneficiaries would be identified in L-1, L-2 and L-3 categories, with 20 lakh people already identified in the state.

MLAs from the Congress and BJP raised questions on Indiramma Houses, seeking sanction of more houses for their constituencies.
