51 Foreigners Held in Farmhouse Party Raid

During the search, police seized 90 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) without an excise licence.

Hyderabad: At least 51 foreign nationals were detained during a raid on an illegal birthday party at a farmhouse in Moinabad, where liquor was served without a licence and loud music was played without police permission. Three participants also tested positive for ganja consumption.

Acting on a tip-off, police from the Rajendranagar zone and the SOT Shamshabad team raided SK Retreat in Bakaram village around 10 pm on Saturday. They found 51 foreigners celebrating a birthday, consuming alcohol and playing loud music through speakers.

During the search, police seized 90 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) without an excise licence. The participants – 14 men and 37 women — were from 11 countries: 37 from Uganda, three from Liberia, two from Nigeria and others from Botswana, Kenya, Cameroon, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Ghana and Malawi.

Police said the farmhouse owner had not obtained prior permission for the gathering, liquor service or music. Immigration authorities were alerted to verify the genuineness and validity of the participants’ visas. Two women and one man were found to have consumed ganja earlier, while the host, a Ugandan woman, was reportedly staying on an expired visa.

Six women and nine men with valid documents were released, while the rest were served restriction orders by the Bureau of Immigration and shifted to the Holding Centre. Further legal action will follow if more irregularities are detected, the police said.

A case has been registered against the management of SK Retreat for violations of excise laws and police permission norms.
