HYDERABAD: A five-year-old boy was allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered by a 19-year-old in Ramanthapur in Uppal. The body of the boy was found on Friday night. According to Uppal inspector K. Bhaskar, the deceased belonged to a migrant family from Chhattisgarh and was residing in KCR Nagar in Ramanthapur. His father worked in a timber shop.
The accused – Qamar, a native of Bihar – was also working in the same shop and was closely acquainted with the deceased's family. On August 12, the boy went missing. The parents immediately filed a case with the Uppal police.
During the investigation, it was found that the deceased had gone to a Kirana store at around 3 pm on August 12 to buy a biscuit. While he was returning, the boy crossed paths with the accused, who lured him into an isolated area and allegedly sexually assaulted him.
“The boy had gone unconscious during the assault, which made the accused fear that he might wake up and inform his parents about the incident,” Uppal SI T. Madhu said. Fearing consequences, the accused allegedly strangled the boy with a rope and tied it around his neck to stage it like a suicide.
Qamar went back to work and met with the victim's parents as if he had done nothing. Later, clues teams, along with the local police, traced Qamar with the help of CCTV cameras, technical evidence and inquiry at the Kirana shop. Qamar confessed to the crime before the police.
Although there was no CCTV camera at the crime scene, footage from a nearby camera showed Qamar exiting the area alone 40 minutes after the incident. It established him as the prime suspect.
The minor's body was shifted to the Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem examination and was later handed over to his family. A case was registered and Qamar was remanded to judicial custody. The minor had severe neck injuries. Police have found no criminal history linked to Qamar so far. The boy’s body was taken to Chhattisgarh for his final rites. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
