40 Pak Nationals Tracked, Told To Go

A day after the Director General of Police (DGP) Jitender issued orders asking Pakistan nationals to leave the state by the April 27 deadline, the police on Saturday identified about 40 Pakistan visa holders in the tri-commissionerate area and asked them to leave by Sunday.

Hydeabad:A day after the Director General of Police (DGP) Jitender issued orders asking Pakistan nationals to leave the state by the April 27 deadline, the police on Saturday identified about 40 Pakistan visa holders in the tri-commissionerate area and asked them to leave by Sunday.

The DGP on Saturday, during a routine meeting with the station house officers of different police stations, reportedly asked them to take measures to identify Pakistan nationals and ask them to leave by Sunday. Those on medical visas must leave by April 29.

Police officials obtained data of Pakistan nationals in the state on valid visas. They said that more than 200 Pakistan nationals had obtained different categories of visas including long term and short term papers. Around 40 short-term visa holders were asked to leave the state by Sunday and the police kept a close watch on them. A majority of Pakistan nationals in Telangana reside in Hyderabad, Rachakonda and Cyberabad limits.

The return of four Pakistani nationals has been facilitated so far, while 18 more are being processed as per the home ministry's instructions, a police officer confirmed.

An official press release will be issued once the identification and verification process for the remaining visa holders is completed, sources said. The police have sought clarification from the Centre regarding the status of long-term visa holders, and their fate will be decided based on the response.

Specialised teams of the Octopus police have been deployed at several areas to tighten security measures. The teams were deployed at Secunderabad, Nampally and Kachiguda railway stations, MGBS, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad.
