22 Girls Fall Ill after Eating Hostel Chicken Curry in Wanaparthy District
A few hours after consuming chicken curry, students started vomiting and severe stomach pain

Hyderabad: Twenty-two students of Government Polytechnic College for Girls in Pebbair in Wanaparthy district fell sick after consuming chicken curry provided in their hostel on Wednesday night.
A few hours after consuming it, students started vomiting and severe stomach pain. The hostel staff provided tablets to girls to get relief. Of the 22 students, most were shifted to a hospital near the hostel.
As the situation started becoming worrisome for 10 students, the staff rushed the students to the government primary health centre in Pebbair on Thursday morning.
Even as students are undergoing treatment, their parents rushed to hospital to enquire about their child’s health condition. Students called their parents to complain about their health situation.
According to officials, the staff members would provide chicken curry to students every Wednesday. As usual, they provided it on Wednesday but within a few hours, the students developed health problems raising questions on the quality of food being supplied to students.
When contacted, Wanaparthy District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) B Bhaskar Naik said they were considering the incident as common food-borne illness coupled with probable water contamination.
However, the exact source of illness was yet to be established through further investigation. The students complained of general body pains, vomiting, and severe abdominal pain with diarrhea symptoms.
“We treated 10 students with IV fluids for dehydration, body pains and vomiting,” Naik said, adding that there was a RO plant on the hostel premises but it was shut down for the last three days prompting the staff to get water from outside. All the 10 students were discharged from the hospital, he added.
