4 TG Firemen Win President Medals

HYDERABAD: Four personnel of the Telangana fire department have been honoured by the President of India with medals for meritorious service, recognising their bravery and dedication on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day.
Among the recipients is fireman B. Gopal Reddy, stationed at Jammikunta fire station in Karimnagar, who has been in the service for 33 years. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, he said his family members’ support gives him the strength and dedicated this award to them.
Another awardee, Mohd Wajeedullah Khan of the Metpally fire station, has served for 40 years. “We enter places most people run away from. It is a job requiring emotional strength. I have been awarded before for several rescue operations,” he said. The other recipients are leading firemen T. Nagesh from Mulugu district and Md. Sadiq from Bhadradri Kothagudem.
This year’s Independence Day honours include 233 Gallantry Medals, of which six were awarded to fire service personnel, along with five President’s Medals for Distinguished Service and 51 Medals for Meritorious Service within the fire services.
Fire department director general Y. Nagi Reddy congratulated the awardees and commended the department’s staff for their service to society.
