Hyderabad:Jeedimetla police have intensified their crackdown on the banned Chinese manja ahead of Sankranti, registering four criminal cases and seizing around 15 bobbins of the dangerous kite string during special inspections.
The raids, conducted between January 8 and 12, yielded manja worth about ₹15,000. Circle inspector Gaddam Mallesh said in a press release that strict enforcement was underway to prevent accidents during the festive season, when kite flying reaches its peak.
Police appealed to parents to ensure children use only traditional cotton strings and avoid synthetic alternatives. Residents were urged to immediately alert police by dialling 100 if they spot anyone selling the banned material in their neighbourhood.
Officials added that enforcement drives will continue until the end of the festival to curb illegal sales and safeguard the public.
