3D Section in new Waqf law would snatch waqf properties, says Asad
AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi said that Section 3D was not in the draft of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill
HYDERABAD: AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi said that Section 3D was not in the draft of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill when it was circulated among MPs, but was introduced in a “surreptitious manner” by the Modi government during the debate on the legislation in Parliament.
In a post on his X handle, Owaisi claimed that Section 3D would snatch away masjids, imambaras and dargahs from the control of the Waqf Board. “Under this unconstitutional law and in particular the 3D section, Muslims will lose their religious places,” he said.
“During the JPC meeting, I was the only MP to give a written representation against several sections. The government will first take over 180-odd Waqf properties in Delhi (that are) under the occupation of Archeological Survey of India. The Sachar Committee had recommended that these properties are Waqf and should be handed back to the Delhi Waqf Board, but the new Waqf law will snatch rather than protect Waqf properties,” he said.
