Isha Gramotsavam Promotes Rural Sporting Talent in Bhadradri Kothagudem

Isha Gramotsavam was launched by Sadhguru in 2004, and the main aim of coming up with this program is to revive the sporting spirit and community life in rural India.

Bhadradri Kothagudem: The 18th edition of Isha Gramotsavam was held with great enthusiasm at the Police Grounds in Dummugudem of Bhadradri Kothagudem on Saturday. More than 350 players participated in the men's volleyball tournament.

Mulakapadu Sarpanch Tulasamma and Dummugudem Circle Inspector T. Venkatappaiah attended the event as chief guests. They appreciated the Isha Foundation for organising sports competitions for rural communities and promoting sporting talent in villages.

Addressing the gathering, CI T. Venkatappaiah said that nowadays, alcohol and drug addiction is increasing among the youth, but a sports event like this would provide a positive direction and offer young people an opportunity to discover and develop their potential.

In the men's volleyball category, the Aasupaka team emerged as the champions, while the Koyyuru team, KN Puram team, and Kashinagaram team secured the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively. CI T. Venkatappaiah presented prizes to the winning teams. Players and villagers turned up in large numbers and enthusiastically participated in the event.

The Isha Gramotsavam team thanked the district administration and the police department for their support in successfully conducting the tournament. They expressed special gratitude to the Project Officer of ITDA B. Rahul, IAS, Superintendent of Police B. Rohith Raju, IPS, and CI T. Venkatappaiah for extending the necessary support to encourage sports in tribal and rural areas. The team also thanked the Physical Directors (PDs) and Physical Education Teachers (PETs) for ensuring the smooth conduct of the competitions.

Isha Gramotsavam, organised by Isha Outreach, earlier, these events were conducted only in Tamil Nadu. But from 2023, Isha Gramotsavam has spread its arms to other states like Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, etc. This year, the tournament is being conducted across 15 districts in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The competitions will be held in three stages: Cluster (district level), Divisional (state level), and Finals. As a part of this, volleyball and throwball matches were held in Jangaon, Karimnagar, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri and Khammam clusters on July 18 and 19. On July 25th, the volleyball tournament was conducted in Dummugudem of Bhadradri Kothagudem. The final event will be completed by September 6.

The top four teams at every stage will receive merit certificates and cash prizes. The grand finale will be held on September 6 at the Adiyogi premises of the Isha Yoga Center, Coimbatore, in the presence of Sadhguru. The winning teams will be awarded the Isha Rejuvenation Trophy along with cash prizes of Rs.5 lakh each for Men's Volleyball and Women's Throwball. Overall, cash prizes worth more than Rs.1 crore will be distributed.
