327 Booked For Drunk Driving In Two-day Drive

Of the total violators, two-wheeler riders accounted for the highest number with 263 cases

Hyderabad: Cracking down on festive revelry turning into road hazards, the Hyderabad Traffic Police booked 327 motorists for drunk driving during a massive two-day special drive conducted on January 2 and 3, 2026. According to traffic police officials, the enforcement wing focused on major intersections and arterial roads across the city to ensure road safety.

Of the total violators, two-wheeler riders accounted for the highest number with 263 cases, followed by 39 four-wheeler drivers and 25 three-wheeler operators.

Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) analysis revealed disturbing trends. While 66 motorists recorded BAC levels between 30 and 50 mg per 100 ml, as many as 131 were found in the 51–100 mg range. Alarmingly, six motorists were caught with BAC levels exceeding 300 mg, far above the permissible limit.

“There will be zero tolerance towards drunk driving violations. These special drives will continue across the city to deter offenders and prevent fatal accidents,” said D. Joel Davis, Joint Commissioner of Traffic, in a press release issued on Sunday.

Police urged citizens to cooperate with personnel on duty and warned that charge sheets would be filed against all offenders in court. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, violators face heavy fines, suspension of driving licences, or prosecution as per law, the official added.
