3,000 Acres of Cotton Crops Damaged in Sirpur (T) Assembly Constituency

To prevent damage to the bund, irrigation department officials are regulating the Komaram Bheem Irrigation Project, maintaining a water storage level of 6 TMC ft against its full capacity of 10.5 TMC ft, by releasing excess water downstream into Peddavagu.

Adilabad: Standing crops, particularly cotton cultivated over nearly 3,000 acres, have been damaged due to inundation caused by backwaters of the Pranahita River in Penchikalpet, Bejjur, and Dahegaon mandals of the Sirpur (T) Assembly Constituency in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district.

Many affected farmers are awaiting the receding of floodwaters from their fields so they can clear the damaged crops and begin fresh sowing.

Sirpur (T) MLA Palvai Harish Babu met revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, urging the government to compensate farmers for their crop losses. The minister reportedly responded positively to the request.

Road connectivity has been severely impacted in several villages as roads were breached and floodwaters overflowed bridges and culverts across the constituency.

Meanwhile, the Pranahita and Penganga rivers continue to receive significant inflows, with floodwaters flowing downstream and merging into the Godavari River.
