30 Junior Colleges Dilapidated in Telangana

Students forced to study in dilapidated, risky classrooms

Hyderabad: A recent report revealed that over 30 Government Junior Colleges (GJCs) across Telangana are functioning in dilapidated buildings, raising serious safety concerns for students. According to education department records, several colleges continue to operate from structures that are already declared unsafe.

In Hyderabad, the GJC for Boys at Nampally and MAM Junior College have both been categorised as dilapidated. At Nampally, a portion of the ceiling collapsed on Sunday, sparking panic among students.

In Nirmal district, the GJC at Khanpur, built in 1970 with mud walls, has been ordered to be dismantled and reconstructed. In Warangal, the GJC for girls is located in a low-lying area where classrooms are regularly flooded during rains.

In Adilabad, the Utnoor boys’ college is in poor condition, while in Nizamabad, the GJC for girls, GJC Bodhan and Armoor boys’ college have all been declared unsafe. The Telangana Education and Welfare Infrastructure Development Corporation has also categorised GJC Nizamabad as dilapidated.

Similar conditions are reported in Mahbubnagar, Kamareddy, Narayanpet, Khammam, Adilabad and Yadadri-Bhongir districts.
