3 Workers Killed In ORR Crash

Police said the driver was drowsy after lunch and was overspeeding, estimated at over 100 kmph, causing loss of control.

Hyderabad:A high-speed crash on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) near milestone 71 towards Shameerpet claimed the lives of three migrant workers from Odisha on Monday afternoon. The victims — Chak Mohan, 21, Jaya Ram, 34, and Narayana, 26 — were engaged in plantation work and were crossing the road for lunch when a mini truck driven by Ganesh of Mahbubnagar veered off the road and ran them over around 2.45 pm.

Police said the driver was drowsy after lunch and was overspeeding, estimated at over 100 kmph, causing loss of control. Despite the workers following safety protocols with cones and reflective jackets, the collision proved fatal. The impact also damaged the road railing.

Keesara police and the road safety wing DCP Manohar confirmed no fault on the workers’ part. The driver, possibly fatigued from long travel, is also under investigation for drunk driving.

Eyewitness Thirupathi said the driver appeared sleep-deprived and the victims died on the spot. The bodies were sent to Gandhi Hospital, and their families have been informed. Police registered a case and seized the vehicle.
