The bodies were shifted to the area hospital in Miryalaguda for post-mortem examination.

Nalgonda: Three members of a family were burnt alive in a fire that broke out in their house at Kalalwada Colony in Miryalaguda of Nalgonda district in the early hours of Friday, police said.

The deceased were identified as Vanam Chandrakala, 45, her grandson Laxman, 16, and granddaughter Pranathi, 14. According to police, the three were asleep when the house caught fire around 12.10 am.

Neighbours noticed the flames and tried to douse the fire by pouring water from buckets. However, an LPG cylinder used for cooking exploded within minutes, triggering panic among residents of the colony.

Miryalaguda DSP K. Rajasekhar Raju said the fire was suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. Police and fire services personnel rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control. The bodies of Chandrakala, Laxman and Pranathi were found inside the house after the fire was extinguished.

Chandrakala was living with her two grandchildren, who were the children of her daughter Dhanamma. After the death of Dhanamma’s husband a few years ago, the family had been staying at Chandrakala’s house in Miryalaguda. Dhanamma had left for Pune three days earlier to work as a domestic worker.

The bodies were shifted to the area hospital in Miryalaguda for post-mortem examination.
