3 km Traffic Jam to See Nagarjunasagar Opening
Taking advantage of the Sunday holiday, a large number of people from both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh arrived at Nagarjunasagar hoping to enjoy the breathtaking sight created when all 26 crest gates are lifted to release water downstream. Unfortunately, only two gates were opened, leaving the visitors disappointed.

Nalgonda: There was a traffic jam for nearly 3 km on the Hyderabad-Macherla road near Nagarjunasagar, as large crowds from various places rushed to witness the release of water from the crest gates of the Nagarjunasagar Project.
However, many returned disappointed after missing the anticipated spectacle. By 11 am, water release had been reduced to just two gates, and by 1.30 pm, all gates were closed. The dam engineers made this decision following the closure of the gates at the Srisailam Project upstream.

Traffic congestion extended from Shivayalam Ghat to the new bridge. At one point, the police found it difficult to regulate the traffic flow due to the overwhelming number of vehicles. Commuters stuck in the jam faced severe inconvenience for several hours. The traffic situation finally returned to normal by evening.
