Hyderabad: A whopping 1.40 lakh Ganesh idols are expected to be installed in twin cities this time during the 11-day Ganesh festival starting from September 14.
Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi general secretary Ravinuthala Shashidhar said separate meetings with officials concerned were already conducted to ensure smooth conduct of the festival.
“We have primarily focused on the security arrangements to be made for the centralized procession of Ganesh idols starting from Balapur and culminating at Tank bund,” he explained. He said more than 1.40 lakh idols, which are five feet of height and above were expected to be installed in twin cities.
This is in addition to the small idols made up of plaster of paris (PoP) and clay idols, he said.
On their part, the Ganesh pandal organizers started making arrangements. A few organizers, especially those from the old city and Begum Bazaar already brought idols from Dhoolpet to complete decoration and lighting works one day before the festival.
The artisans are giving a shape to the 69-foot-tall Panchamukha Sankatahara Maha Ganapati idol at Khairatabad. The works are likely to be expedited from next week.
Meanwhile, the three municipal corporations in Hyderabad and its suburbs decided to distribute clay Ganesh idols at free of cost to worship during the festival.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will distribute one lakh idols ranging between eight inches and 18 inches, while Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) and Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) will distribute 50,000 each idol.
The Pollution Control Board (PCB) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will also supply a sufficient number of idols for public distribution.
The three corporations are making elaborate arrangements for the immersion of idols at 25 water bodies in Hyderabad and its suburbs. While large idols would be immersed in lakes using cranes, small idols in baby ponds, officials said.
In 2025, more than 2.07 lakh idols including small, medium and large were immersed in lakes in Saroornagar, Tank Bund, Kukatpally, Kapra, IDL and Safilguda. Over 50,000 police personnel were deployed to oversee the smooth immersion of Ganesh idols including the towering Khairatabad Ganesh idol last year.
