₹255-Crore Plan To Turn Nalgonda Into Tourism Hub

Hill sites such as Latheef Saheb Hill and Brahmamgari Gutta have been identified for development as spiritual tourism centres.

Nalgonda: A proposal to develop Nalgonda as a tourism hub with an outlay of Rs 225 crore has been prepared by the municipal authorities, citing the town’s geographical advantage and existing heritage sites. Officials said the plan focuses on leveraging historical temples, hill locations and water bodies in and around Nalgonda to boost tourist inflow. Prominent attractions include Chaya Someshwaralayam and Pachhala Someshwaralayam at Panagal, along with the Udayasamudram Balancing Reservoir, which already draw visitors, particularly on auspicious days. An archaeological museum located near Pachhala Someshwaralayam also showcases regional heritage.

Hill sites such as Latheef Saheb Hill and Brahmamgari Gutta have been identified for development as spiritual tourism centres. Ghat road works to improve access to these locations are currently under way at a cost of about Rs 140 crore.

Municipal officials said the comprehensive proposal would be submitted to the state government for approval. The plan follows earlier announcements made by the previous BRS government, including a proposal for a mini-Shilparamam arts and crafts village at Panagal, which has not been implemented.

Social activist Gundu Venkateshwarlu said the district still has traditional artists practising forms such as Tholubommalata and called for the establishment of a mini-Shilparamam in Nalgonda to promote local culture and generate employment.

Nalgonda mayor Burri Chaithanya said the proposal, prepared as per directions of roads and buildings minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, outlines projects with an estimated cost of Rs 255 crore.

The plan includes a ropeway between Latheef Saheb Hill and Kapuralagutta at a cost of Rs 118 crore, development of lake tourism at Udayasamudram with Rs 25 crore, and beautification works at the reservoir with Rs 5 crore. It also proposes Rs 13 crore for development of the Latheef Saheb dargah, Rs 1.89 crore for Chaya Someshwaralayam, and Rs 5 crore for Pachhala Someshwaralayam and the archaeological museum.

Further allocations include Rs 75 crore for road development and Rs 5 crore for improvement of major junctions. The mayor said the minister had assured to take up the proposal with the state government for approval and sanction of funds.
