24 Gates of Taliperu Project Lifted; Road Links to Several Villages Cut Off

Nalgonda: Twenty-four gates of the Taliperu project at Peddamidisileru in Cherla mandal of Bhadadri-Kothagudem district were lifted on Thursday afternoon, releasing 44,000 cusecs of water downstream.
The medium irrigation project, constructed across the Taliperu river—a major tributary of the Godavari—received heavy inflows following rains in Chhattisgarh. District authorities alerted residents of low-lying areas in Cherla, Julurupad, Chandrugonda, Annapureddipally, Dammanapet, Ashwaraopet and Mulkalapally mandals to remain vigilant.

Streams including Padileru, Nimmavagu, Jannaram Yeru and Rallavagu swelled with heavy runoff, while village tanks in Peddamunigala, Peddagopathi and Guppagurthi of Konijerla mandal overflowed.
In Khammam district, Kandigunta pond at Ramakrishnapuram breached its limits, submerging the Khammam–Bonakal road under three feet of water. Vehicular movement was barred, with barricades set up at Ramakrishnapuram.
