2 Missing, 4 Hurt in Blast at Explosives Unit

An explosion at the mixing unit collapses the building; rescue teams search for missing employees.

Nalgonda: Two workers went missing and four others suffered serious injuries in an explosion at Premier Explosives near Katepally in Motakondur mandal of Yadadri-Bhongir district on Tuesday. Police suspect that the missing workers, K. Sandeep, 27, and Devi Charan, 30, may be trapped under the debris of a building that collapsed following the blast.

The explosion occurred in the company’s mixing unit while workers were mixing ammonium and potassium to prepare gelatin sticks. Six workers were present in the unit at the time of the incident. Police said the four injured workers — K. Srikanth, A. Lingaswamy, K. Srkanth and P. Mahesh — were shifted to a private hospital in Hyderabad for treatment.

Fire and police personnel launched a debris removal operation in search of the missing workers. The cause of the explosion is yet to be determined. Following the incident, workers and victims’ relatives staged a dharna in front of the company, demanding justice.
