2 Crest Gates of Musi Project Lifted

Heavy rains raise inflow to Musi reservoir; 1,300 cusecs released through crest gates

Nalgonda: Two crest gates of the Musi Project, located at Bopparam in Kethepally mandal of Nalgonda district, were lifted by one foot to release 1,300 cusecs of water downstream.

Due to heavy rainfall in the upstream catchment areas last week, the inflow into the medium irrigation project increased significantly. Project officials decided to lift the gates after the water level reached 643.45 feet, against the full tank level of 646 feet. The inflow to the project is currently around 1,700 cusecs.

Executive engineer of the Musi Project, Venkata Ramana, said that gates No. 3 and 8 were lifted, and the volume of water being released from the gates would be adjusted based on further increases in inflow. He emphasised the need to maintain a balance between inflow and outflow, keeping the reservoir’s water level in mind.

The total outflow from the project stands at 1,700 cusecs, with 400 cusecs being diverted into the left and right canals, and the remaining water being released downstream through the crest gates.
