Gulf Migrant Protest Turns Violent in Velpur as BRS, Congress Clash Over Welfare Claims
Nizambad: Peaceful protest of Gulf migrant leaders turned violent at Velpur mandal headquarters on Thursday as BRS MLA V.Prashanth Reddy’s brother Ajay Reddy and others attacked the migrant leaders. Telangana NRI cell conveners Vangi Devender Reddy, Amarender Reddy, car driver Raju sustained injuries in the attack by BRS activists.
On the other hand, BRS MLA Prashanth Reddy alleged that Gulf migrant workers attacked on his residence in Velpur. Police imposed restrictions on movement of people in Velpur on Thursday under section 163 of BNSS. Balkonda MLA Prashanth Reddy recently alleged that Chief Minister A.Revanth Reddy ignored the poll promises on Gulf migrant workers and failed to set up a Gulf welfare board, toll-free number and NRI board.
He also demanded Rs 5 lakh financial aid to deceased Gulf migrant workers' families. He dared to discuss the migrant workers issue. Meanwhile, the district Congress committee and Gulf migrant workers gave counter statements against MLA Prashanth Reddy and called for ‘Kanuvippu’ (eye opener) programme for BRS MLA for spreading false information.
Police house arrested DCC president Manala Mohan Reddy and other ruling Congress party leaders on Thursday. Meanwhile, Telangana NRI cell conveners Vangi Devender Reddy, Amarender Reddy and others tried to submit the already taken Gulf migrant welfare programmes in Balkonda Assembly constituency to the MLA on Thursday.
They are moving towards the residence of MLA Prashanth Reddy, BRS activists attacking them near Gandhi statue in Velpur. Severely injured Devender Reddy and Raju were admitted in a private hospital in Nizamabad. Meanwhile, BRS working president KT Rama Rao, MLA T.Harish Rao, BRS district president A.Jeevan Reddy alleged that Congress leaders attacked MLA Prashanth Reddy’s house. They also spoke to Prashanth Reddy on phone. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, NRI cell convener Amarender Reddy said that they are tried to submit data of Gulf migrant workers welfare in Balkonda Assembly constituency to the MLA in peaceful manner. BRS leaders are unable to digest the factual reports and attacked on us, he said.
