142 ULBs To Get Spl Officers

Hyderabad: The government will appoint special officers to 142 urban local bodies (ULBs), excluding the GHMC, whose tenure ends in January. The officers, to be appointed by the municipal administration and urban development (MA&UD) department, will appoint one officer to each of the 142 ULBs, to execute the tasks of their councils.
An MA&UD official said that 13 of the ULBs are municipal corporations and 129 are municipalities.
The official also confirmed that the pre-election process for the ULBs was underway. “We are awaiting the finalisation of BC Commission reservation and instructions from authorities to conduct the election,” said the official.
ULB elections will be held through ballot papers and the poll preparations will be completed within 120 days of instructions from authorities, the official added.
Besides, 15 municipalities / municipal corporations will be added to the list of ULBs. With the city expanding by the day, several areas including Narsingi in the west, Boduppal in the east, Badangpet in the south and Jawaharnagar in the north fall in the 142 ULBs and will be headed by special officers.
“Though the city and town councils will be dissolved, the civic administration will continue as a matter of routine and the decisions that were used to be taken in the council, including sanction of major funds, will now be taken by the special officer. The special officers will be government officials from districts,” said an official.
