1,308 Accident Black Spots Fixed across Telangana, 205 Works Underway: Centre
Khammam has 131 black spots, which is highest in Telangana, followed by 107 in Jagtial and 83 in Mancherial district
Hyderabad: Telangana has 1,513 accident black spots and of them 1,308 were rectified, while 205 in various stages of completion, according to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Of the total black spots, Khammam has 131 black spots, which is highest in Telangana, followed by 107 in Jagtial and 83 in Mancherial district. Rectification works were completed in 125, 99 and 79 black spots in Khammam, Jagtial and Mancherial districts, respectively, while the remaining were under completion.
Hyderabad has 22 black spots. Of them, rectifications have been completed at 15 places while the remaining seven were under various stages of completion.
The Ministry has stated that 1,513 accident black spots were identified based on road accidents during 2016-18, 2018-20, 2019-21 and 2020-22 on National Highway in Telangana. The required temporary rectification measures of most accident black spots have already been completed.
The funds amounting to approximately Rs. 1023 crore have been allocated towards rectification of accident black spots in Nizamabad and Jagtial districts.
The improvement of National Highway works including construction of bridges, bypass and safety measures is a continuous process. Improvement works on NH-63, NH-61 and NH44, including road safety aspects in Nizamabad and Jagtial, are at stages of planning and implementation under different National Highway development programmes.
The status of road safety interventions in Telangana is reviewed from time to time in accordance with the extant policy and priorities.
This was stated by Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, while replying to a question raised by BJP MP Arvind Dharmapuri on ‘Black spot rectification and road safety’ in Lok Sabha on Thursday.
