1,275 Underage Driving Cases Booked in Hyderabad
As part of the enforcement drive, the traffic police submitted requests to RTA to cancel the registration certificates of vehicles driven by minors

Hyderabad: In a special drive against underage driving launched on April 5, the Hyderabad traffic police have booked 1,275 cases and initiated strict action, including the cancellation of vehicle registrations. So far, registrations of 35 vehicles have been cancelled for one year, with more cancellations in process.
Citing Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, joint commissioner of traffic D. Joel Davis said that minors are strictly prohibited from operating motor vehicles. “This violation invites stringent legal consequences, not only for the underage driver but also for the guardian or vehicle owner,” he said.
As part of the enforcement drive, the traffic police submitted requests to the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) to cancel the registration certificates of vehicles driven by minors. The RTA has already cancelled 35 such registrations, with further cases under review.
Issuing a public appeal, Joel Davis urged parents and guardians to avoid allowing minors to drive, warning of grave risks to both the minors and other road users. He also pointed out that minors caught driving will be barred from obtaining a driving licence until they turn 25. “The cooperation of citizens is vital to prevent road accidents and save lives. This drive will continue in the interest of public safety,” he added.
